Cobre Las Cruces, the hydrometallurgical mining complex located in the municipalities of Gerena, Salteras, and Guillena, in the province of Seville, is one of the main references in the context of current international mining, both for its significant role in the resurgence of metal mining in Spain and for its technological innovations.
The company is 100% owned by the Canadian multinational First Quantum Minerals , one of the world leaders in the sector. Production began in 2009, but the project's development began in 1992, the year exploration began.
CLC has one of the world's most advanced and sustainable hydrometallurgical plants for the production of top-quality copper cathodes (slabs) (Grade "A" by the London Metal Exchange, 99.999% purity). The technology developed at CLC enables the entire "mine-to-metal" process, converting ore into copper cathodes on-site, maximizing the entire value chain.
This is one of the largest private investments—more than €1.1 billion to date—made in recent decades in Andalusia and Seville. The local impact is highly significant, both in terms of job creation and the direct, indirect, and induced effects of the activity.
