Teck is advancing the Zafranal Project, a sustainable, long-term copper operation in the Arequipa region that will help meet the growing global demand for copper, essential for the energy transition. The project brings both economic growth and a commitment to environmental and community stewardship to the region.
Zafranal has an expected lifespan of 19 years and will produce copper concentrate with a low gold content through open-pit mining and conventional concentration, with an estimated copper production of 126,000 tons per year during the first five years.
The deposit is owned by Compañía Minera Zafranal SAC, where Teck holds an 80% stake and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation the remaining 20%.
